Walters Wins Players' Player Award Tue 22nd Apr 2008 23:24
Jon Walters was perhaps unsurprisingly the big winner at the club's end of season dinner at Trinity Park on Tuesday evening. Walters won both the Players' Player of the Year and the Corporate Boxholders and Sponsors Player of the Year awards.

Striker Shefki Kuqi says he should be back in action for Town's final two games of the season after limping off during Sunday's 2-1 derby victory over Norwich City. Central defender Alex Bruce is also hopeful his hamstring problem isn't too serious.

Boss Jim Magilton joked that he would have strangled matchwinner Danny Haynes had Norwich City managed an equaliser in Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Canaries at Portman Road. Haynes created the first and scored the second for the Blues, but missed a succession of very good chances after the break.

Town dropped out of the play-off zone after drawing 1-1 at home to Sheffield United. James Beattie put the Blades in front in the first half, but Alan Lee hit back after the break, however, overall it was a lacklustre performance from the Blues.

Another Jordan Rhodes goal took Town's reserves to their 11th straight league victory of the season against a determined Northampton side. The Cobblers provided far sterner opposition than many of the sides they have faced this season, most notably MK Dons, who were despatched 12-1 in the last home game.

Town's U18s completed a double over Norwich City with a 2-0 victory over the Canaries at their Colney training ground on Saturday morning. Kurt Robinson, who also scored in the 3-2 home victory earlier in the season, and Jack Ainsley netted the goals in the second half.

A very young Town U18 side lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace at Playford Road on Saturday morning. Paul Murphy netted the Blues goal in the opening minute.

Town's home league unbeaten run ended at 19 matches as a niggly and cynical Watford side left Portman Road with a 2-1 victory. Tommy Smith put the visitors in front on 33, then Nathan Ellington extended the Hornets' lead after the break, before Jon Walters pulled a goal back for the Blues.

Town keeper Neil Alexander has been named in former Blues boss George Burley's first Scotland squad. Alexander will join up with a training camp in Glasgow from February 3rd to 5th.

Chairman David Sheepshanks and Marcus Evans's representative Martin Pitcher were both unanimously elected on to the club's PLC board at Monday's AGM. The first AGM of the Marcus Evans era passed relatively quietly aside from news of Town's impending signings.
